ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church was organized on May 3, 1959, by Rev. Milton L. Johnson, with its first service held on June 7, 1959. The church started under the leadership of the Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. R. M. Shepherd served as pastor. The early days were marked by the support of nearby churches, with 16 members initially joining. The church steadily grew, moving from a small house to a remodeled building, and finally, in 1967, into a new structure, guided by the vision of Rev. Johnson, who sadly passed away in 1973.
Rev. Onezene Wilson succeeded Rev. Johnson in 1973, leading the church through significant growth and the construction of the current place of worship in 1985. His ministry saw the ordination of several preachers and the expansion of church programs. Rev. Wilson’s tenure ended in 1990 when he passed away, leaving behind a strong foundation for future growth.
In December 1990, Rev. Lee E. Skinner became the pastor, ushering in a period of continued spiritual and physical growth. Under his leadership, various ministries were introduced, including those for youth, single adults, married couples, and outreach efforts. The church has also supported foreign missions in Ghana and local outreach initiatives.
Today, Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church remains focused on spreading the gospel and serving the community. With a debt-free status and ongoing plans to expand its facilities for education and community events, the church continues to be a beacon of faith and service. Its vision is to be transformed by the Spirit into the image of Jesus Christ for the glory of God.
